Computex 2009: Solid State Drive Alliance showcases certified products

The Solid State Drive Alliance (SSDA), founded in October 2008 by 12 leading companies in the industry, has started to show progress in its mission for implementing an SSD standard and will make its first appearance at Computex this year. The company's booth in Hall 1 (at the "Trend Technology" Exhibition Pavilion) will feature the first-ever SSDA-certified products.
Prior to Computex, SSDA announced the release of its Compliance Program Version 1.4. The current version of test guideline covers OS independent test (mechanical test, performance test and reliability test) and interoperability test (host control and OS installation). SSDA says its compliance program will help make sure quality SSD products reach the marketplace, as only products that pass the compliance program will be granted the right to use the SSDA-certified logo. Makers can benefit through this test program by reassuring customers that their products have met the basic requirements in performance, reliability and usability.
The first SSDA-certified products will hit the market in the beginning of next quarter, said Anne Tsou, director of the SSDA marketing committee. Tsou added that the soon to be released Version 1.5 Compliance Program will include a new addition for endurance test, where the wear leveling technology will be tested.
SSD technology is expected to make strong traction in the storage market, the alliance says. In the meantime, SSDA is collaborating with international organizations such as JEDEC and SNIA. The organization believes the primary factor influencing strong growth in the SSD market will be the quality level of products, said Tsou.
The founding members of SSDA are A-Data Technology, Phison Electronics, Allion Test Labs, Silicon Motion, ASMedia Technology, Silicon-Power Computer & Communications, CoreSolid Storage, Solid State System, ITE Tech, Ulink, ITRI and JMicron Technology.
